Discussion on the 6 Paramitas, Saturday 2/2/13 9 AM class

The Six Paramitas are the six virtues in Buddhist tradition.
Paramita literally means “that which has achieved sufficient perfection to reach the other shore.”Across the sea of suffering. From ignorance to enlightenment.Transcendence.

Generosity
The right gift and the right recipient! Can we be generous in our listening,as well as our speech? Generous in how much we give- time, attention. And in how much we allow other to give to us.

Ethics
How you Do what you Do, to self, to others. We do not harm others; we are virtuous and harmless in our thoughts, speech, and actions.

Patience
With others and yourself, but dont get lazy-there is a difference after all. The strength of mind and heart that enables us to face the challenges and difficulties of life without losing our composure and inner tranquility.

Effort
and preservation of effort while practicing the other paramitas!(but dont get lazy – there is a difference after all!) We use our body, speech, and mind to work ceaselessly and untiringly for the benefit of others, with no expectations for personal recognition or reward. I repeat: We use our body, speech, and mind to work ceaselessly and untiringly for the benefit of others, with no expectations for personal recognition or reward. Why Not?

Concentration
mindfulness, focus, meditation, ease the monkey brain = release attachment and confusion

Wisdom
each parameter leads to this, an absolute wisdom, beyond knowledge and intellect and universities, we seek actually to know emptiness and the interconnectedness of all things. Without the delusions, attachments and emotions of daily thinking.

If there is light in the soul,
There will be beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person,
There will be harmony in the home.
If there is harmony in the home,
There will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation,
There will be peace in the world.
